Practice

It takes a huge team effort to create the 4831 workplaces, 422 exclusive boutiques, 230 small workshops, 113 private houses and 14 hotels that Househam Henderson have designed in the last 10 years — not to mention the mission critical facilities, CHP plants, bingo clubs and stables that we've produced for our 328 demanding and discerning clients.

Our team has worked with 94 international designers, 472 contractors, and numerous engineers, surveyors, plumbers, electricians, groundworkers, acousticians, lighting experts and even newt experts to overcome all the challenges of a building project. No wonder we place a premium on people-skills.

We've spent 789,601 working hours — and 521 flights, 3127 train journeys and 6524 miles by road — to look after 217 sites in 40 countries.

This part of the website gives some more information about who we are and how we work.

History

The company in its present form was founded in Winchester in 1980 by Chris Henderson, although the 'Househam' part of the name reflects our roots in a partnership in Lesotho, Southern Africa set up by Clive Househam in 1966. Duncan McKellar and John Mullan joined the Winchester practice in 1990. Eddie Miles was recruited in 1992 to work on hotel projects in Germany. This led to the establishment of an office in Berlin which Eddie managed until 1995 when he moved to London to set up our second UK office.

Our European presence led to retail and telecoms work in France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands and Spain during the late 1990's. In 2000 we opened offices in Paris and Madrid. By 2004, these had grown into full locally-managed offices, able to offer a full architectural service to our multi-national clients. The three managers of these offices, Leo Faoro, Eva Diego Garcia and Leo Faoro work closely together and in 2006 became shareholders in the Group. Tony Luck joined Househam Henderson in 1998 and became a Director in 2008.
